David offers both private and group instruction in all aspects of art and painting.
Students can enjoy one-on-one attention, or benefit by attending a group workshop.
Lessons and workshops are usually given at David's studio in Grass Valley.
 
Private instruction is given at a rate of $50 per hour, and offers an intense, one-on-one experience, handling whatever artistic issues and painting whatever subject matter the student desires.

Classes vary in price as well as in the topics covered.  David is well known as an encourging and enthusiastic teacher, and his classes and workshops are small, friendly, and relaxed.

Paint the Yuba River

A Two-Day Workshop for Artists

Saturday and Sunday
April 17 and 18

     The Yuba River in spring supplies artists with inspiration for scores of paintings.  This two day workshop at David's Grass Valley studio will emphasize looking at scenes in different ways to create challenging and interesting compositions.  Bursting rapids, quiet inlets, granite boulders, reflections and changing light will all be studied.  There will be demonstratins and instruction on acrylic technique, but you can work in whatever medium you use.
     A workshop highlight is a special field trip to the Yuba River itself to gather reference photos and sketches to use in future paintings.  This will probably include a visit to one of Nevada County's historic covered bridges.
     David's classes are small, friendly, and relaxed.  He is known as a gentle, encouraging and enthusiastic teacher.  Small class size ensures individualized attention during supervised painting time.  You will be painting several different aspects of the Yuba in class, and will leave Sundy with a quality foundation and the requisite knowledge for completing these studies as finished paintings.  Students are also asked to bring two paintings for personalized critique.   
     There is ample time to explore the nearby towns on your own or with a nonpainting partner Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon (or come early on Friday!).
