A Giclee Print is an archival fine art print, referring to the product of
an ink spray printing process ("Gicleer" in French).  The word also
distinguishes fine art prints from other commercial reproduction processes.
A Giclee begins with a high resolution digital image of the original artwork.
Using computer softwre, the digitl image is adjusted to ensure that the
color balance and tonality match the original as closely as possible.
The Giclee printer sprays approximately four million microscopic droplets of
archival pigmented ink per second onto archival substrate, such as paper or
cotton canvas.  With the artist supervising at every step, the Giclee process
gives a much more precise, truer-to-the-original look than traditional offset
lithography or serigraphy.
The quality of the inks and canvas used in a Giclee assures that, if properly
displayed, a Giclee print should last in excess of 100 years without discernible
fading or color shift.
